Music For Hope 2010

13 March 2010

Shortly after Fun With Facebook, I dashed to Tiong Bahru Plaza to volunteer as the Master of Ceremony for Music For Hope 2010.

Music For Hope 2010 is a fund-raising event organised by B Well Ltd. B Well Ltd is a charitable organisation that provides health care services to the destitute and the elderly.

Many schools performed for the beneficiaries and the public. They include the Ngee Ann Secondary School symphonic band and rock band, Yuhua Secondary School Chinese and Indian dance groups, Raffles Institution's chorale group, as well as private music groups such as the Intune Music School, Jian Xin Productions and the Jody Marshall Dance Group.

While the performances are going on, students and volunteers sold donation tickets to members of the public.

There was also a charity auction segment where gift hampers, sponsored by Asia Pacific Breweries, are auctioned to the public. I thought it was cool to be leading the auction on stage in front of a shopping mall. It was encouraging that we managed to auction off all the hampers.

The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Baey Yam Keng, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC. Upon his arrival, he went on stage to sing a medley of songs with some beneficiaries. He was accompanied by Director of B Well Ltd, Dr Ho Kah Leong and MediaCorp artiste Edmund Chen.

After the singing, Mr Baey presented certificates of appreciation to all the participating bodies and sponsors.

Edmund has a very friendly and warm personality. He sang two songs and got the whole crowd mesmerised. He also auctioned 2 of his autographed DVDs - a song which he sang for the World Wildlife Foundation and the Street Fighter movie where he acted as Chun Li's father - for charity.

It was no joke speaking for 6 hours continuously under the hot sun. But it was definitely worth the effort helping raise the targeted $50,000 sum for charity.
