YSEALI PFP Day 23: This Is Not A Holiday

12 May 2019

Despite the late night, our dear Master Chef An Do woke early and prepared breakfast for us.

An Do was my room-mate during the Orientation Week in Washington DC. Together, we jogged every morning and with his navigational capabilities, we would be able to return back to hotel, no matter what kind of direction we jogged to.

A few days before he visited us at Chicago, we sent him a May Day message, requesting him to bring us supplies, which he did (with the assistance of our friends at Iowa)! In our corporate housing at Chicago, we had to replenish our own supplies when they ran out. Shall not provide further information on what supplies we are referring here.

We bade farewell to An Do, who returned to Iowa by bus.

I always remember the first liner in the admin brief from the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), the implementing organisation for YSEALI Professional Fellows Program's Governance and Society theme:

 “This is not a holiday.”

Truly, we hardly had any free time. So when an opportunity presented itself today, we grabbed it!

As Alan recommended the night before, we headed to Michigan Avenue Stop to board the River Taxi, which would be a faster alternative to taking the red line to Cermak-Chinatown station.

Unfortunately, the plan didn't work out quite well, and we missed the River Taxi by just a minute.

And then, inspired by our Alabama folks who spent more than 5 hours at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, but still could not complete the mall, we took the blue line to Rosemont station.

"... regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, sexual orietnation, or other protected status."

At Rosemont, a complimentary shuttle bus came to ferry us to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago.

3 cheers for the first day of shopping in Chicago after about 20 days in the City!

Ending off with #AvengersEndGame at dine-in cinema @amctheatres before we start off another hectic week ahead!

After a short rest back at our corporate housing, we went to shopping mall Block 37 at 108 North State Street (not sure why it's called Block 37...).

The AMC Dine-In Theatres are quite similar to the Golden Village Gold Class cinemas in Singapore, but a fraction of the price!
