YSEALI PFP Day 6: Arrival at Placement City - Chicago - The Windy City

25 April 2019

Professional Fellows headed to our respective placement cities today. They included Chicago, Des Moines, South Carolina, Montgomery and Washington DC. By now, most of us had shedded off jetlag and adjusted to the local timing, which was good because we would now be adjusting to a new time zone :D

Last group photo with those heading out of Washington DC, before we parted ways to the various departure gates by our most professional wefie champ Kim Hokte of Cambodia

Having our lunch before our flight at Dulles International Airport. Here's My from Ho Chi Minh City.

And Yasmin, a University lecturer in Thailand, and Ivy, a political officer with the Defence Ministry of Malaysia

The flight from DC to Chicago O'Hare International Airport took about 1.5 hours. We were received by Jason Lunderman, an ACYPL alumnus.

The location of our accommodation allowed us to experience living in downtown Chicago. We bumped into our neighbour, who rented a unit and lived long term here. It was interesting that he had plans to move to Singapore with his partner.

Fancy~

We were joined by Matt Summy, also an ACYPL alumnus, and Regional Vice President, Government & Regulatory Affairs, Comcast. Matt brought us to the most pressing agenda of the day - grocery shopping at H Mart, a Korean supermarket.

Durian!

Aren't those onions huge?

Our hunt

We spent a short amount of time at the Chicago RiverWalk. It was interesting to learn that Chicago wasn't named the Windy City because of strong winds, but long-winded politicians who made it to the headlines.

The Merchandise Building (right) was previously owned by the Kennedy family, and also once the largest building in the world

Dinner was at Wells Street Market.

Japanese Ramen!

Goodnight Chicago! - a view from our apartment
