URA Concept Plan 2011 Sharing Session

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) conducted a concept plan sharing session with grassroots leaders.

Many interesting questions were raised during Q&A. A grassroots leader serving at Geylang Serai asked if there were any future plans for the red light district and if URA were zoning such activities elsewhere.

Family Outing to Iluma

Iluma Shopping Mall is one of a kind.

It's real hard to find a spacious mall in Singapore, Iluma the exception.

My family and I went for late lunch at the Asian Kitchen and we spotted this outdoor balcony. The view is spectacular, with the National Library Building right smack in front of us.

We watched the movie, 14 Blades, at the Film Garde. The seats were comfortable, with a tall chair that allows your head to rest on it, and ample space for the legs.

TR2201 Entrepreneurial Marketing

TR2201 Entrepreneurial Marketing must be the most exciting and experential module you would find in NUS. As part of the module requirement, students have to generate ideas, do pilot-testing and concluding it with a marketing plan.

So immediately after the weekly meeting with Bedok North Secondary School Service Learning Club (SLC) students, I rushed to Suvin's area to meet up with the rest as we explore the abundant ideas that we have.

We went to Mad Jack restaurant to check out the fruit juices as well as Potato Farmland, which coincidentally was closed!

"The Singapore Lion" Book Launch

Thanks to Edgar, Hock Rong and I were invited to the book launch of "The Singapore Lion" by Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC & writer-in-residence, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS). "The Singapore Lion" is the first half of the biography of Mr S. Rajaratnam.

The book launch was held at the National Library Building's Drama Centre. The event was attended by many dignitaries, including Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, PMO Minister Lim Hwee Hua, MCYS Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong, former diplomats such as Lee Khoon Choy as well as many other ambassadors. The guest-of-honour was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

After the author gave her speech, which I thought was marvellously done, PM Lee shared more about Mr Rajaratnam, one of Singapore's founding father.

Books bearing the autograph of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew were also sold at $10,000 per book. Proceeds contribute to ISEAS. PM Lee presented the books to the buyers on stage.

A video, done by MediaCorp, on S. Rajaratnam was also screened. That was followed by a skit by The Necessary Stage.

It was really an eye-opener as a first-timer at a book launch.

Brownies for YEC Monthly Meeting

It was the monthly meeting for Eunos CC Youth Executive Committee (YEC) as usual, but Jialing surprised with her self-baked brownies!

Eunos Constituency 5-year workplan retreat

As part of the RC Youth Chapter initiative, PAYM requested for Eunos CC YEC to be filmed. So, in the morning, some of us went to the Happy Happy Sunday (a 52-week free breakfast session for needy residents) and met up with the cast and crew. Hock Rong and I were also interviewed on our views on the RCYC.

Immediately after the filming, we dashed to Eunos Community Club where our constituency is holding its 5-year workplan retreat. This is in line with People's Association 5-year workplan, one of which is bridging youth initiative.

The CC's Indian Activity Executive Committee (IAEC) is also holding its Ponggal celebrations. Ponggal festival is a harvest festival celebrated by Indians.

There were real cows brought into the CC.

As part of their celebrations, blind-folded participants also whacked this "liquid bag" for good luck.

National Day Celebrations 2010 Organising Committee Meeting

I felt privileged to be in the organising committee (for my first time) for Eunos constituency's National Day Celebrations 2010.

This year's committee is chaired by Mr Pang Loo Seng PBM, Chairman, Eunos Community Emergency and Engagement (C2E). Hock Rong was surprised to find out that he had been appointed one of the vice-chairpersons, and I was equally so when I knew I would be the Secretary.

A traditional National Day celebration would consist of a National Day Dinner and a National Day Observance Ceremony, where awards are given to senior grassroots leaders. There is also a National Day decorations competition among various residents' committees.

As a breakthrough to the norm, we'll also be having a 45+5 hours Karaoke Marathon as well as a campfire as part of the celebrations. 45hrs = Singapore's age. +5 = 50 hrs (in commemoration of People's Association 50th Anniversary). The campfire, titled Young At Heart - You Are Here (YAH-YAH) campfire, would really hype up this year's national day fever.
